Bill Pfeffer is an oil painter based in Petaluma, California, where he paints Northern California landscapes and seascapes shaped by light, atmosphere, and a strong sense of place.
He grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan, where water, weather, and wide horizons left a lasting impression. After studying economics at the University of Wisconsin, he spent many years in a successful computer programming career before turning more fully to painting. What began as a late-career interest gradually became a daily practice.
His work is influenced by years of travel and a habit of paying close attention to landscape—how light moves across hills, how color shifts through the day, and how certain places stay with you long after you’ve left.
Bill paints in oil on panel, often pairing his work with one-of-a-kind antique frames and found objects—clocks, headboards, and rare frames discovered in antique stores across the United States. Each panel is custom cut to fit the piece, making every painting entirely unique, both in image and presentation.
He continues to paint from his studio in Petaluma, working steadily and letting each painting develop in its own time.
